A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Steven Levetan on being named the Senator Steve Reynolds Man of the Year by Keep Georgia Beautiful and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a Georgia native, Mr. Steven Levetan began his career in 1970 as a third generation member of his family's scrap metal and paper recycling business in Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Levetan has served in leadership positions in recycling industry trade associations at the state, regional, and national levels; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Levetan was named to the Citizens Advisory Board of Georgia Clean and Beautiful by Governor George Busbee; and

WHEREAS, he represented the recycling industry at the state capitol from 1975 until 2004, when he became Senior Vice President of Pull-A-Part, LLC, Georgia's leading recycler and retailer of used auto parts; and

WHEREAS, a founding board member of the Georgia Recycling Coalition, Mr. Levetan served as Chair of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Council's Environmental Committee for four consecutive years; and

WHEREAS, as a representative of the recycling industry, Mr. Levetan has been appointed to numerous legislative study committees, including the Governor's Solid Waste Study Committee, the Georgia Recycling Markets Development Committee, the Hazardous Sites Remediation Act Reauthorization Study Committee, the Computer Equipment Disposal and Recycling Council, and Governor Perdue's Litter Team; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Levetan has been recognized locally, regionally, and nationally for his expertise in the recycling industry, serving as Chairman of Keep Sandy Springs/North Fulton Beautiful, being named Chairman of Florida's Recycling Markets Advisory Committee, and serving as a member of the steering committee for the EPA's National Vehicle Mercury Switch Removal Program; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Levetan was selected as the Automotive Recyclers Association's Member of the Year for 2008, and Keep Georgia Beautiful and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs selected Mr. Levetan as the 2008 recipient of the Senator Steve Reynolds Man of the Year award.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. Steven Levetan for his many outstanding contributions to his community and the State of Georgia and congratulate him on his recognition as the Senator Steve Reynolds Man of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Steven Levetan.
