A
RESOLUTION
Commending
and honoring Willie A. Haslerig, outstanding Georgia citizen; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Willie A. Haslerig has long been recognized as an outstanding community,
business, and civic leader with a deep personal commitment to the welfare of the
citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
born in Chickamauga, Georgia, on December 12, 1921, Mr. Haslerig graduated from
high school in 1939 and went to work in his father's farming and milk business
that served North Georgia and the Greater Chattanooga area; and
WHEREAS,
in 1949 that family business became the first African American licensed dairy
processing plant in Georgia, which they owned and operated for 16 years, and he
continued in the dairy industry until retiring in 1984; and
WHEREAS,
he has been married to his loving wife, Dorothy, for 66 years and they were
blessed with four wonderful children; and
WHEREAS,
he served his country in the United States Marine Corps and continued to serve
his community and the state throughout his life, including serving on the
Juvenile Court Review, the Walker County Transportation Committee, as board
member of the Walker, Dade, Chattooga, Catoosa County Family Crisis Center and
Children's Cottage, life member of the Chickamauga Lions Club, founding member
of the Walker County Habitat for Humanity, and member of Prince Hall Mason Lodge
# 221 and 33rd degree Scottish Rite life member; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Haslerig is the recipient of numerous awards over his many years of public
service, including the naming of the activity building in his honor by the
Family Crisis Board of Directors, the Tennessee Multicultural Chamber of
Commerce Chattanooga Legends-Catalysts for Change Award, and the Walker County
Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year; and
WHEREAS,
this distinguished gentleman is a person of magnanimous strengths, and, by the
example he has made of his life and work, he has made our state a better place
in which to live.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Willie A. Haslerig for his effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service
and recognize him as an outstanding Georgia citizen.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Willie A. Haslerig.
