A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Paul R. McKnight; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mr. Paul R. McKnight on March 22, 2009; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. McKnight was born on September 11, 1925, in Senoia, Georgia, the beloved son
of the late Paul and Kathleen Fowler McKnight; and
WHEREAS,
he graduated from the Brantley Institute of Senoia before joining the United
States Army to serve as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty as a
First Sergeant under General George S. Patton during World War II;
and
WHEREAS,
after the war Mr. McKnight returned home to Senoia and rejoined his family farm
and cotton business and began his life-long dedication to the public school
system; and
WHEREAS,
for 31 years he served on the Coweta County Board of Education, years where he
was instrumental in the peaceful desegregation of Coweta County's schools;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. McKnight was committed to uplifting his community as evidenced by his
outstanding service as a member of the Senoia Lions Club, on the Senoia City
Council, and for the board of directors of Bank of Coweta and Farmers &
Merchants Bank; and
WHEREAS,
known for his beaming smile, Mr. McKnight was named the 2006 Cattleman of the
Year by the Cattlemen's Association; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. McKnight was united in love and marriage to his wife, Totsie, for nearly 61
wonderful years, and he was blessed with six children and numerous grandchildren
and great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man who loved hosting a good barbeque, Mr. McKnight
will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal
husband, father, neighbor, and friend will be missed by all who had the great
fortune of knowing him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Mr. Paul R. McKnight and express their deepest
and most sincere regret at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Paul R.
McKnight.
