A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue has been recognized by the Georgia State Firefighter's Association as 2009 Educator of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia State Firefighter's Association annually recognizes outstanding public service and dedication with awards for Lifesaving Valor, Rookie of the Year, Firefighter of the Year, and Educator of the Year from nominees throughout this state; and

WHEREAS, Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue earned the prestigious recognition as Educator of the Year for its fire prevention program; and

WHEREAS, during Fire Prevention Week, the Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue squad taught over 7,000 children, between kindergarten and fifth grade, the importance of fire safety; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership and guidance of Fire Marshal Glenn Davis, the dedicated men and women of Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue use a three-room trailer to help demonstrate fire safety to students and their families; and

WHEREAS, the Fort Oglethorpe team has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of their time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of their community and field with work in fire injury prevention programs and increasing public awareness of what steps should be taken in an emergency; and

WHEREAS, the Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue team have also earned the respect and admiration of their colleagues and associates with their comprehensive programs that teach CPR; and

WHEREAS, the education provided by the members of the Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue team have undoubtedly saved countless lives throughout the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of these remarkable Georgians be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue for their efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service and congratulate them upon their recognition as Georgia State Firefighter's Association's 2009 Educator of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Fort Oglethorpe Fire and Rescue.
