RESOLUTION
Commending
the Reverend William F. Harrell; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Reverend William F. Harrell celebrated his thirtieth anniversary as pastor
of Abilene Baptist Church in Martinez on January 16, 2011, in a day of
celebration that included a special message by the Reverend Gerald Harris, a
concert by the Abilene Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra, and a reception in the
church social hall; and
WHEREAS,
since the beginning of Rev. Harrell's ministry on January 18, 1981, the church
has experienced magnificent growth in membership, from 935 to over 2,800, and a
budget growth from $265,000 to over $2.7 million, and more than 1,900 people
have been baptized; and
WHEREAS,
one of his many innovations has been the Abilene Pulpit, a televised ministry
which today reaches a large part of Georgia and South Carolina; and
WHEREAS,
Rev. Harrell has been active at every level of the Southern Baptist Convention,
and his efforts were instrumental in returning the convention to its Bible
centered roots; and
WHEREAS,
many lives have been touched because of the talents and sacrifices of this holy
man of God, and it is only right and proper that he be commended for his many
years of service.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the Reverend William F. Harrell for his efforts and accomplishments and express
their sincerest best wishes for his continued success in the
future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Reverend William F.
Harrell.
