A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Keep Georgia Beautiful; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Keep Georgia Beautiful has been working with volunteers for three decades to protect and improve Georgia's environment; and

WHEREAS, established in 1978 by Governor George Busbee, Keep Georgia Beautiful was the first state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and supports a network of over 70 local affiliates, which cover 75 percent of Georgia's population; and

WHEREAS, housed in the Department of Community Affairs, Keep Georgia Beautiful is a public-private partnership that fosters connections with private citizens, government officials, corporations, and community organizations in order to build and sustain community environmental activities and behaviors that will result in a more beautiful Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Keep Georgia Beautiful coordinates special events, develops new affiliates, and provides professional and educational training on ways to promote environmental stewardship; and

WHEREAS, the active local affiliates of Keep Georgia Beautiful are the key to the program's success, producing $10.00 in benefits for every $1.00 of invested public funds and reducing litter in the community by 48 percent within three years of certification; and

WHEREAS, detailed community assessments, local partnerships, and broad-based support are the trademarks of the Keep Georgia Beautiful system, and the dedicated efforts of this fantastic organization are worthy of recognition.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Keep Georgia Beautiful program on 30 years of promoting clean and healthy environments in communities throughout this state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Keep Georgia Beautiful program.
