A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending former United States Department of State language assistant Mr.
Ayad Majeed and his family; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Ayad Majeed is an Iraqi National who served as a language assistant for
coalition forces in Operation Iraqi Freedom from July, 2003, to January, 2006;
and
WHEREAS,
through the use of his language skills, Mr. Majeed provided important
intelligence information to coalition forces, thereby ensuring their safety and
ability to properly challenge enemy forces; and
WHEREAS,
on January 18, 2006, while working with American contractors for the U.S.
Department of State, Mr. Majeed made an enormous sacrifice for this country,
losing his right arm during an I.E.D. attack on his American convoy;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Majeed sought refuge in the great state of Georgia from a hostile nation and
is currently working diligently to unite his family and bring his loving wife
and three children to Georgia from Basra, Iraq; and
WHEREAS,
January 18, 2009, marked three years Mr. Majeed has been separated from his
family, and he hopes each day for their safe reunion; and
WHEREAS,
his selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of
human spirit and willpower, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the
sacrifices Mr. Majeed and his family have made to assist the United States
during Operation Iraqi Freedom be recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mr. Ayad Majeed for his unselfish and dedicated service to the citizens of the
United States, offer support to him and his family in their time of separation,
and extend to him and his family their most profound and sincere appreciation
for their sacrifice.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Ayad Majeed.
