A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to the Festival of Pacific arts.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
In 2016, Hawaii won its bid to host the thirteenth festival of pacific arts. To support Hawaii's winning bid, the legislature enacted Act 104, Session Laws of Hawaii 2017, which established a temporary commission to host the thirteenth festival of pacific arts. The legislature additionally enacted Act 142, Session Laws of Hawaii 2018, which appropriated funds to the department of business, economic development, and tourism for the commission to plan the festival of pacific arts to be held in Honolulu from June 11 to June 27, 2020. However, the onset of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic cancelled the original festival scheduled for 2020. With the world emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic, Hawaii is scheduled to host the thirteenth festival of the pacific arts to be held in Honolulu from June 6 to June 16, 2024.
Therefore, the purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to the department of business, economic development, and tourism for the commission on the thirteenth festival of pacific arts to plan for the festival of pacific arts.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2023-2024 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2024-2025 for commission to plan for the festival of pacific arts to be held in Honolulu from June 6 to June 16, 2024.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of business, economic development, and tourism for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2023.
