A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to the attorney general.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 28, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§28-     Recorded hours.  (a)  For purposes of recordkeeping and public accountability and to the extent possible, the attorney general shall keep records of the number of hours its employees expend on each lawsuit, notwithstanding the absence of any bills charged to any person.

     (b)  The department of the attorney general shall publish on its website an annual report of all case numbers and hours expended per case per fiscal year for the services provided by the department.

     (c)  The case numbers and records of hours under subsections (a) and (b) shall be subject to disclosure by the attorney general under section 92F-12."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2017.
