HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
urging the city and county of honolulu to construct a traffic light signal at the intersection of honowai and waipahu streets in waipahu to relieve traffic congestion.
WHEREAS, as Hawaii communities grow, it is important to maintain and upgrade traffic infrastructure for safety and the movement of people and goods; and
WHEREAS, a growing community such as Waipahu requires traffic infrastructure upgrades to help relieve traffic congestion in the area; and
WHEREAS, one of the traffic chokepoints in Waipahu is the intersection of Honowai and Waipahu Streets, which is a major traffic artery that feeds the growing community; and
WHEREAS, for some time, Waipahu residents have requested a traffic light signal at the intersection of Honowai and Waipahu Streets to relieve traffic congestion that, at times, can snarl more than ten cars during peak traffic hours; and
WHEREAS, Waipahu motorists traveling on Honowai Street have few alternative roadways to bypass that chokepoint and merge onto Waipahu Street, and those alternatives, Hene and Hoaeae Streets, are out-of-the-way and are routinely congested by traffic, too; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of
the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2011,
the Senate concurring, that the Department of Transportation Services of the
City and County of Honolulu is urged to fund and install a traffic light signal
at the intersection of Honowai and Waipahu Streets in Waipahu to relieve
traffic congestion; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution
be transmitted to the Director of Transportation Services of the City and
County of Honolulu; Director of Transportation; Chief of Police of the Honolulu
Police Department; and Chairperson of the Waipahu Neighborhood Board.
