WHEREAS, AMY ALOHILANI BIRCHER is a longtime fan of the romance genre and centers her scripts around meaningful stories of love, family, and friendship, and through her writing, she reinforces Hawaii's position as a hub for developing compelling content for the entertainment industry; and
WHEREAS, AMY ALOHILANI BIRCHER was born in Hawaii and raised on Hu‘e Hu‘e Ranch on Hawaii Island; and
WHEREAS, as a young girl, AMY ALOHILANI BIRCHER's passion for reading evolved into a love for writing, and after graduating from Hawaii Preparatory Academy, she attended Sonoma State University in California and earned a degree in Communication Studies; and
WHEREAS, following college, AMY ALOHILANI BIRCHER worked as a Business Relationship Manager and Private Banking Officer before starting Kona Lavender Farm; and
WHEREAS, AMY ALOHILANI BIRCHER applied for a spot in the Hawaii State Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism Creative Industries Division's Creative Lab Hawaii (CLH) 2017 Writers Immersive program, which offers writers a track to develop new content for motion pictures and television while learning how to navigate the business; and
WHEREAS, CLH was founded in 2012 by DBEDT's Creative Industries Division to increase exports, attract investment, and build the state's creative entrepreneurial ecosystem; and
WHEREAS, through immersive workshops, panels, and mentorship by industry leaders from across the globe, CLH provides entrepreneurs with business and creative skill sets necessary to monetize their intellectual property and expand distribution channels, positioning Hawaii as a nexus of creative media development in the Pacific; and
WHEREAS, AMY ALOHILANI BIRCHER is a graduated fellow of the CLH 2017 Writers Immersive program; and
WHEREAS, after her acceptance into CLH, AMY ALOHILANI BIRCHER'S spec script "Victorian Christmas", was optioned by a company that produces content for major television networks; and
WHEREAS, AMY ALOHILANI BIRCHER also wrote her screenplay, "Delivering Christmas," which was released as a Lifetime mini-movie and debuted on December 3, 2017, generating additional momentum for her writing career in Hollywood; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2018, that this body hereby recognizes and congratulates AMY ALOHILANI BIRCHER on her outstanding achievements and extends to her its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success.
