HOUSE RESOLUTION
COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SHERATON HAWAII BOWL ON CONDUCTING THEIR 10TH ANNIVERSARY GAME.
WHEREAS, in Hawaii’s efforts to promote tourism in the political, economic, and entertainment industries, sport tourism remains a popular attraction to fans around the world; and
WHEREAS, through ESPN Regional Television, the SHERATON HAWAII BOWL has shared the beautiful scenery of the wonderful state of Hawaii with over 150 countries around the world through various mediums including television, wireless, interactive, print, radio, broadband, and event management and consumer products; and
WHEREAS, over the past 10 years, the SHERATON HAWAII BOWL maintained an average viewership of 16 million viewers per year, through ESPN Regional Television syndicates; and
WHEREAS, through “Made in Hawaii, Played in Hawaii,” the SHERATON HAWAII BOWL provides a NCAA football bowl opportunity game to the University of Hawaii Warriors; and
WHEREAS, in the 2010 matchup between the University of Hawaii and the University of Tulsa, it is estimated that over 19 million people either tuned in to watch the game or attended the game, held at Aloha Stadium in person; and
WHEREAS, through the Hawaii Bowl Foundation, the SHERATON HAWAII BOWL, has donated more than $420,000 in cash and over $1.5 million in tickets to Hawaii-based charities and military personnel and in 2010, the Hawaii Bowl Foundation donated more than $64,000 to various Hawaii non-profit agencies including Ahahui Koa Anuenue, Special Olympics Hawaii, the Hawaii High School Athletic Association, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu; and
WHEREAS, in appreciation of their contribution to Hawaii through charitable and athletic ventures, the SHERATON HAWAII BOWL is being recognized for a decade of highlighting our State as a host of major sporting events and giving back to the community; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by The House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii Regular Session of 2011, that this body hereby commends and congratulates the SHERATON HAWAII BOWL on conducting their 10th anniversary game, and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes for many more years of exciting pigskin games.
