STATE OF HAWAII

HOUSE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE HAWAII KOREAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 75^TH ANNIVERSARY.

WHEREAS, the HAWAII KOREAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE was established in 1940 by fifteen immigrants from Korea who came to Hawaii and now has grown to encompass a diverse spectrum of businesses, professionals, and individual entrepreneurs; and

WHEREAS, the HAWAII KOREAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE's mission is to enhance business opportunities for its members by promoting Korean business diversity and growth and creating economic vitality within Hawaii and internationally; and

WHEREAS, initially, the HAWAII KOREAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE began its work by improving the welfare of the Korean community with activities consisting primarily of awarding scholarships to needy and deserving students of Korean ancestry and hosting annual banquets in honor of graduating Korean high school students; and

WHEREAS, the HAWAII KOREAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE later expanded its efforts to assist the Korean community in Hawaii by promoting business development and trade between Hawaii and Korea through events such as business seminars and trade missions to Korea; and

WHEREAS, the HAWAII KOREAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE has also been involved in events and awards such as the 9-11 Economic Seminar, Entrepreneur of the Year Award, scholarship awards, and its signature event, the annual Korean Festival; and

WHEREAS, the HAWAII KOREAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE has proudly served the Korean community of Hawaii for 75 years, becoming a critical force for economic progress and offering positive leadership for the Korean community and the community at large; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, that this body hereby congratulates the HAWAII KOREAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE on the momentous occasion of its 75th anniversary and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes to the organization for its continued success in perpetuating goodwill amongst the Korean community and improving the quality of life for everyone in the State.
