HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

Congratulating Emma Tandara AND Cierra Nakamura AS RECIPIENTS OF THE 2017 PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD, EVAN LIU and Lisa Kam AS finalists for THE 2017 PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD, AND kacie Kajihara as A PRESIDENTIAL Scholar candidate.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, EMMA TANDARA, a recipient of the 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Award, is an eighth-grader at Ewa Makai Middle School and organized her school's recycling program by creating an instructional recycling video seen across the state, coordinating recycling drives, and leading recycling sorting games at elementary schools across the island; and

 

     WHEREAS, CIERRA NAKAMURA, a recipient of the 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Award, is a senior at Iolani School and created a campaign called "Spreading Smiles Across Miles," a program that sends donated dental hygiene products to impoverished families in underdeveloped Asia-Pacific countries; and

 

     WHEREAS, EVAN LIU, a finalist for the 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Award, is a junior at Punahou School and is an active volunteer at Kuakini Hospital, the International Hospitality Center, and Smile Train, where he is working to raise funds for cleft lip surgeries; and

 

     WHEREAS, LISA KAM, a finalist for the 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Award, is a senior at Maryknoll School and worked with the Hawaii Chinese History Center to create a program called Family Oriented Cultural Understanding Study (FOCUS), which is designed to help students and their families trace their Chinese roots; and
     WHEREAS, KACIE KAJIHARA, is a senior at Kalani High School, has earned recognition as a National Merit Semi-Finalist and Presidential Scholar candidate, and also showed ingenuity in contemplating the future of local agriculture by conducting experiments pertaining to more rapidly growing and nutritionally sound papayas; her experiments earned her a prestigious second place gold medal at the 2016 National FFA Agroscience Fair; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-Ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2017, that this body hereby commends, congratulates, and honors EMMA TANDARA, CIERRA NAKAMURA, EVAN LIU, LISA KAM, AND KACIE KAJIHARA for their outstanding accomplishments and much-deserved recognition, and extends to all of them its sincere mahalo and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
