HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

CONGRATULATING ACCESSURF ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 10th ANNIVERSARY, PATH (PEOPLES ADVOCACY FOR TRAILS HAWAII) ON THEIR 30th ANNIVERSARY, AND HAWAII BICYCLING LEAGUE ON THEIR 40th ANNIVERSARY.

 

 

 


WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Legislature wishes to congratulate AccesSurf, on the occasion of their ten-year anniversary, for their non-profit charity programs, services, and events for the communities in the State of Hawaii; and

 

WHEREAS, AccesSurf, a water-based non-profit charity organization founded by Mark Marble in 2006, educates the general public about how to assist people with disabilities; it has created programs locally and nationally to assist anyone with a physical disability or cognitive disability to thrive in a water environment; and

 

WHEREAS, AccesSurf empowers people with disabilities by providing adaptive surfing and therapeutic educational programs on water recreation, enriching lives by helping families to access the beach and ocean in a barrier-free environment; and

 

WHEREAS, AccesSurf hosts a variety of surfing activities and programs, such as "Day at the Beach" and "Wounded Warrior Day at the Beach," and in 2012, it became the first Paralympic Sports Club in Hawaii, developing swim clinics both in the pool and in the ocean; and

 

WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Legislature wishes to congratulate PATH (Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii), on the occasion of their thirty-year anniversary, for their non-profit charity programs, services, and events for the communities in the State of Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, PATH, a Hawaii county community-based non-profit bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organization founded in 1986, has taken on the mission to safely connect people and places on Hawaii Island with pathways and bikeways, in response to an emerging need for places to walk, bike, and hike safely and legally in Hawaii county; and

 

WHEREAS, PATH's board of directors, educational team, and staff of over 3,500 members from across the State of Hawaii and around the world support efforts to enable residents to live sustainably as islanders, preserving the natural environment and providing daily physical activities in an effort to maintain health, reduce energy consumption, and build critical social bonds within the community; and

 

WHEREAS, PATH offers a wide selection of keiki and adult cycling safety classes, as well as pedestrian education and commercial vehicle driver and bike/pedestrian safety education; and

 

WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Legislature wishes to congratulate Hawaii Bicycling League, on the occasion of their forty-year anniversary, for their programs, services, and events for the communities in the State of Hawaii; and

 

WHEREAS, Hawaii Bicycling League, a non-profit organization founded in 1975, is Oahu's oldest and largest cycling organization, advocating for positive changes that will help make Hawaii a cycling paradise, and encouraging more bike riding in the community; and

 

WHEREAS, Hawaii Bicycling League's mission is to encourage people to ride bicycles for health, recreation, and transportation, through advocacy and education; for forty years, Hawaii Bicycling League has offered programs, services, and events related to bicycling for communities throughout the State of Hawaii; and

 

WHEREAS, Hawaii Bicycling League advocates for bike lanes and overall bike safety in the community, hosting large annual events, such as "Honolulu Century Ride" and "Haleiwa Metric Century," and smaller events, such as "Bike Month" and "Oahu Bike Count," and holds educational workshops and presentations for all ages, including the BikeEd program for 4th graders, and presentations on sharing the road; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, that this body hereby congratulates AccesSurf on their 10th anniversary, PATH (Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii) on their 30th anniversary, and Hawaii Bicycling League on their 40th anniversary, and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes to the non-profit organizations for their continued success in perpetuating goodwill in the community and improving the quality of life for everyone in the State.
