HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

CONGRATULATING STEPHANIE MEW AS THE 2016 HAWAII STATE TEACHER OF THE YEAR, ALICIA CHANG AS THE 2016 HONOLULU DISTRICT TEACHER OF THE YEAR, LYNN YOSHIOKA AS THE 2016 CENTRAL DISTRICT TEACHER OF THE YEAR, KATHY LIN AS THE 2016 LEEWARD DISTRICT TEACHER OF THE YEAR, DARRYL YAGI AS THE 2016 HAWAII DISTRICT TEACHER OF THE YEAR, JOY AULANI TAKATSUKA AS THE 2016 MAUI DISTRICT TEACHER OF THE YEAR, and DAVID PAUL BRAUN, JR., AS THE 2016 KAUAI DISTRICT TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the people of the State of Hawaii take great pride in recognizing and honoring the superb achievements and notable contributions of educators who, through their extraordinary dedication and personal efforts, significantly improve the quality of education for the children of Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, STEPHANIE MEW, a teacher at Kapunahala Elementary School, was selected from more than 11,000 educators within the State as the 2016 Hawaii State Teacher of the Year; she strives to be a positive role model for students, in addition to providing them with an education that produces extraordinary results; and

 

WHEREAS, ALICIA CHANG, a teacher at King Liholiho Elementary School, is the 2016 Honolulu District Teacher of the Year; she encourages diversity through her support of many extracurricular programs and inspires students on their path to knowledge; and

 

WHEREAS, LYNN YOSHIOKA, a teacher at Mililani Middle School, is the 2016 Central District Teacher of the Year; she promotes teamwork and a learning environment that improves student achievement through the use of STEM programs which focus on hands-on learning; and

WHEREAS, KATHY LIN, a teacher at Highlands Intermediate School, is the 2016 Leeward District Teacher of the Year; she has used her background in science and research to encourage students to excel at the Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair and expand their knowledge of science; and

 

WHEREAS, DARRYL YAGI, a teacher at E. B. de Silva Elementary School, is the 2016 Hawaii District Teacher of the Year; he aims to make a difference in the lives of his students through education, focusing on the basketball and golf teams to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and character-building, and by taking a leadership position in the community to assist children and future teachers; and

 

WHEREAS, JOY AULANI TAKATSUKA, a teacher at King Kamehameha III Elementary School, is the 2016 Maui District Teacher of the Year; she provides her students with the tools needed to face life's challenges and is dedicated to her community and school by promoting literacy and childcare programs; and

 

WHEREAS, DAVID PAUL BRAUN, JR., a teacher at Waimea Canyon Middle School, is the 2016 Kauai District Teacher of the Year; he incorporates music into his lessons which allows students to use creativity and develop a love for learning; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, that this body hereby commends, congratulates, and honors STEPHANIE MEW, ALICIA CHANG, LYNN YOSHIOKA, KATHY LIN, DARRYL YAGI, JOY AULANI TAKATSUKA, and DAVID PAUL BRAUN, JR., for their outstanding accomplishments and much-deserved recognition, and extends to them its sincere mahalo and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
