HOUSE RESOLUTION
HONORING THE OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS OF mS. MAGDALENA "mAGGIE" pASION DOMINGO TO ETHNIC BROADCASTING & COMMUNITY SERVICE.
WHEREAS, the people of the State of Hawaii are proud to recognize those individuals who selflessly give so much of their time, energies, and talents to faithfully serve the community and contribute to the overall well-being of the state; and
WHEREAS, MAGDALENA "MAGGIE" PASION DOMINGO has served her community with passion and compassion through her work as a business leader, radio host and travel agent; and received recognitions for these numerous contributions to the community as a testament to her zeal, dedication and love for people of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, MAGDALENA "MAGGIE" PASION DOMINGO started her career in travel and broadcasting 57 years ago, has been in community service helping Filipino Americans in Hawaii become acclimated to the new country; she has become a go-to icon giving information and consultations to whoever needs them, and her radio program was and still is one of the most listened to early morning show tuned in by millions of listeners; and
WHEREAS, she established her travel agency, Phil-American Travel Agency, in 1965, helping many long-awaited family reunions came true, and made possible for hundreds of people from the Philippines to enter the United States and join family members here in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, always an advocate and an indefatigable humanitarian, MAGDALENA "MAGGIE" PASION DOMINGO has become everyman’s Aunty, exuding maternal care and ardor; and received numerous awards from various airlines, community organizations, business institutions, and many charitable groups; including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the United Filipino Council of Hawaii (UFCH); and
WHEREAS, hard work and perseverance paid off for Ms. Domingo: her travel agency has become a top-ranking travel agency during its prime, and generated revenues in the state of Hawaii; her radio program “Saniata Variety Show” on KNDI will end its run in its highest spot in her category; she is still top sales producer for Valley of the Temples, and is the first female president of the UFCH, the umbrella of all Filipino organizations in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, on her impending retirement, MAGDALENA "MAGGIE" PASION DOMINGO is now re-focusing much of her time and energy into building advocacies that uplift the spirit of the community to which she is devoted; and dedicating her efforts as the president of the Philippine Cultural Foundation of Hawaii, which aims to strengthen families and community through cultural and traditional exchanges; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2015, that this body hereby honors MS. MAGDALENA "MAGGIE" PASION DOMINGO on her 57 years of community advocacy, recognizes her outstanding record of service and leadership, congratulates her on her retirement from ethnic radio broadcasting and extends its best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.
