HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

recognizing ANGELICA REYES, alan a. arato, cristy ann louden agres, yvonne elliman, And tom moffatT for their work with the crown c.a.r.e.s. program, increasing awareness of the issue of bullying, teaching tolerance, and promoting bully-free schools in hawaii.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Hawaii State House of Representatives is always proud to recognize and applaud those individuals and community organizations that promote and support scholarship and mentoring programs for Hawaii's young adults; and

 

     WHEREAS, The Crown C.A.R.E.S. Program -- Creating a Respectful Environment in Schools –- was created under the auspices of the Pageant Headquarters Scholarship and Mentoring Program, which serves as a national platform to spread awareness on one of the most crucial issues facing children and youth today – bullying, including cyberbullying; and

 

     WHEREAS, The Crown C.A.R.E.S. Program recognizes that bullying causes anxiety and depression among young children, erodes their self esteem, and severely impacts their learning abilities at school; and

 

     WHEREAS, through its advocates and volunteers, The Crown C.A.R.E.S. Program has collectively provided over 100 hours of community service through radio broadcasts, regular visits to care homes, collecting donations to support the Children's Miracle Network, partnering with Solid Rock Ministries and the Hawaii Food Bank to help feed the residents of Waikiki Health Center, working with Crime Stoppers Honolulu, and visiting various schools statewide to promote the message of kindness and tolerance among students, as well as many other activities; and

 

     WHEREAS, an accomplished musician who plays five musical instruments: the piano, ukulele, guitar, clarinet, and violin, ANGELICA REYES was selected as Miss Hawaii High School in 2012; she soon began advocating for The Crown C.A.R.E.S. program, working on bullying prevention and intervention programs; involved in community work since childhood, she remains active in the community today; she spearheaded a legislative forum at the State Capitol in 2012, linking the Miss Hawaii High School Anti-Bullying initiative with State of Hawaii suicide prevention programs; and

 

     WHEREAS, ALAN A. ARATO is the Entertainment Director of the Pageant Headquarters Scholarship and Mentoring Program and The Crown C.A.R.E.S. Program; with over 30 years in the entertainment promotions and sales/marketing industry, he has worked extensively in these fields in Hawaii, Las Vegas, Italy, Mississippi, Thailand, and Hong Kong; a compassionate and resourceful leader with strong interpersonal skills, he has been an integral member of The Crown C.A.R.E.S. Program, having coordinated various events that promote and advance the Program's goals and objectives; and

 

     WHEREAS, CRISTY ANN LOUDEN AGRES has the dedication, commitment, and passion to serve as State Executive Director for The Crown C.A.R.E.S. Program; an entrepreneur, model, and compassionate leader, she has been involved in the model and talent industry for over 30 years as an American and international commercial, print, and runway model; the producer of Starlight Entertainment in Hawaii, she has entered and won various beauty pageants, including being crowned Mrs. Asia America in 1991; and

 

     WHEREAS, renowned singer YVONNE ELLIMAN is an advocate volunteer for The Crown C.A.R.E.S. Program; her singing career began in 1969 in London, England, where she performed at various bars and clubs; in the same year, she got her first big break after playing Mary Magdalene in the original London production of "Jesus Christ Superstar"; two years later, in 1971, her first 1971 hit single "I Don't Know How to Love Him" peaked at #28 on the United States music charts, followed by her hit single "If I Can't Have You", which gained the #1 spot on the music charts in the United States and Canada; due to her amazing onscreen performance in the motion picture "Jesus Christ Superstar", she also received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in Music and Comedy; and

 

     WHEREAS, another advocate volunteer for The Crown C.A.R.E.S. Program is the legendary TOM MOFFATT, who has been a part of Hawaii's music scene for over 50 years; the illustrious career of this show business and musical icon of the Pacific spans radio, album production, concert promotion, television, and, more recently, column-writing; he brought some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry to Hawaii, such as Chuck Berry, the Rolling Stones, Jimmy Hendrix, the Doors, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and Elton John; by bringing the world to Hawaii and Hawaii to the world, having had an integral role in the Hawaiian Renaissance of the 1970s and 1980s, he has had a profoundly positive effect on the cultural life of Hawaii's residents; and

 

     WHEREAS, through the advocacy work of ANGELICA REYES, ALAN A. ARATO, CRISTY ANN LOUDEN AGRES, YVONNE ELLIMAN, and TOM MOFFATT, The Crown C.A.R.E.S. Program has successfully played an active role in increasing the public's awareness of bullying, spreading the importance of teaching tolerance, and promoting bully-free schools in Hawaii; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, that this body hereby recognizes and honors ANGELICA REYES, ALAN A. ARATO, CRISTY ANN LOUDEN AGRES, YVONNE ELLIMAN, and TOM MOFFATT for their extraordinary work with The Crown C.A.R.E.S. Program, and expresses its deep appreciation to them for increasing awareness about the issue of bullying, promoting kindness and tolerance, and striving for safe and bully-free schools.
