HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

applauding honolulu little league for their unbelievable dominance in winning the 2018 little league world series.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the House of Representatives recognizes the importance of athletics and sports competitions, especially youth sports, in promoting and facilitating the healthy and well-rounded development of both the mind and body; and

 

     WHEREAS, held every year in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the Little League World Series brings together the top eight international teams and the top eight U.S. teams for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to compete against the very best and earn distinction as Little League World Series Champions; and

 

     WHEREAS, the players from HONOLULU LITTLE LEAGUE, led by humble and hard-working manager Gerald Oda, played their way into the Little League World Series by first winning all four of its games in the Little League Baseball West Regionals; and

 

     WHEREAS, HONOLULU LITTLE LEAGUE continued its streak of undefeated play in the Little League World Series by beating all five of its opponents handily, including shutting out Peachtree City Little League, 3-0, to win the U.S. Championship and defeating the team from Seoul Little League by the same score to win the World Series title, the third by a team from Hawaii; and

 

WHEREAS, each game showcased the wide range of talents and skills of each member of the team, including their extraordinary pitching, timely and efficient hitting, and outstanding team defense; and

 

     WHEREAS, HONOLULU LITTLE LEAGUE players also impressed with their maturity, humility, and grace both on and off the field, earning the Jack Losch Little League Baseball World Series Team Sportsmanship Award along with Peachtree City Little League; and

     WHEREAS, the HONOLULU LITTLE LEAGUE roster included the following members:

 

     (1)  Aukai Kea, pitcher and third baseman;

 

     (2)  Chandler Murray, outfielder;

 

     (3)  Mana Lau Kong, pitcher and first baseman;

 

     (4)  Bruce Boucher, catcher;

 

     (5)  Sean Yamaguchi, pitcher and second baseman;

 

     (6)  Kaolu Holt, pitcher and third baseman;

 

     (7)  Taylin Oana, shortstop;

 

     (8)  John De La Cruz, pitcher and outfielder;

 

     (9)  Hunter Nishina, outfielder;

 

    (10)  Jace Souza, outfielder;

 

    (11)  Tanner Chun, second baseman, shortstop, and outfielder;

 

    (12)  Caleb Okada, first baseman and outfielder;

 

    (13)  Zachary Won, outfielder; and

 

    (14)  Kory Chu, pitcher and outfielder; now, therefore,

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, that this body hereby commends and applauds HONOLULU LITTLE LEAGUE for their unbelievable dominance en route to winning the 2018 Little League World Series, and extends to the team its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
