HOUSE RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING THE HAWAII BUILDING FUTURE CHAMPIONS ORGANIZATION FOR CREATING A NO-WEIGHT LIMIT TACKLE FOOTBALL PROGRAM FOR LOW INCOME AND AT-RISK YOUTH.
WHEREAS, HAWAII BUILDING FUTURE CHAMPIONS is a non-profit organization that provides a no-weight limit tackle football league that serves the gap population of children between 7 – 14 years of age from low income and at-risk families who are unable to afford the high costs of private sports leagues prior to high school; and
WHEREAS, HAWAII BUILDING FUTURE CHAMPIONS targets youth at Kuhio Park Terrace and other public housing communities in Kalihi, urban Honolulu, as well as in the Waianae coast with plans to expand its reach to the neighbor islands, giving youth across the state the opportunity to play and participate in a sport they love, while also providing a safe and nurturing environment for them to grow and build essential life skills, with God as their foundation; and
WHEREAS, the HAWAII BUILDING FUTURE CHAMPIONS model makes the players the primary beneficiaries by covering the referee fees and facility costs, and providing high quality football gear to ensure safety of all the players, including certified helmets, shoulder pads, padded pants, and cleats, which families from target communities are unable to afford; and
WHEREAS, HAWAII BUILDING FUTURE CHAMPIONS utilizes holistic positive coaching models, engages parents as coaches and team support, and utilizes support from the surrounding community using football as a vehicle which values every player and teaches them how to face challenges and overcome obstacles on the field, in the classroom, and in life in a positive team sports environment; and
WHEREAS, HAWAII BUILDING FUTURE CHAMPIONS encourages and motivates at-risk youth to stay in school, make healthy choices, and become leaders on the field and in their communities; HAWAII BUILDING FUTURE CHAMPIONS is more than a football league, it is a space in which community is valued, where every team, every player is part of one big "ohana"; and
WHEREAS, HAWAII BUILDING FUTURE CHAMPIONS was started in 2007 as The Pacific Big Boyz Football Conference; in 2017, Ta’avao Alualu, also known as Pastor T, was named Chief Executive Officer and Commissioner and also serves as Senior Pastor of Solid Rock Christian Fellowship Assembly of God; Pastor T was the Pastor of Solid Rock Assembly of God and the founder of the Rock Solid Crusaders Football Program at Kuhio Park Terrace; and
WHEREAS, the HAWAII BUILDING FUTURE CHAMPIONS leadership team consists of individuals serving on the Board of Directors and Owners who have more than 20 years of combined experience running tackle football leagues and tackle football programs; and
WHEREAS, HAWAII BUILDING FUTURE CHAMPIONS has already become a strong talent base for high school football program recruitment across Oahu and has made a difference for youth who do not have access to a positive after-school environment; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2018, that this body hereby recognizes and congratulates HAWAII BUILDING FUTURE CHAMPIONS for creating a sports program that serves low income and at-risk youth, commends its commitment and contributions to the people of the State of Hawaii, and extends it warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
