HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

congratulating the honolulu chinese jaycees on the occasion of its 60th anniversary.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the prosperity and the well-being of our communities depend on the development and active service of our young leaders, and the State of Hawaii is proud to honor those exceptional organizations that are dedicated to helping Hawaii's young adults achieve success in their personal and professional lives; and

 

     WHEREAS, founded in 1953, the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees is a leadership and community service organization that consists of men and women between the ages of 18-40; and

 

     WHEREAS, members of the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees come from many cultural and professional backgrounds to develop their leadership skills by participating in professional programs, including workshops on public speaking, personal dynamics, time management, and vocational skills; and

 

     WHEREAS, members of the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees also volunteer for community service projects, and enjoy meeting others at various social and athletic events; and

 

     WHEREAS, from 1992 to 1993, the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce presented the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees with the coveted Harold A. Marks Award, recognizing it as the Most Outstanding Chapter in the Nation, making the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees the only chapter in the history of the Hawaii Jaycees to receive this award; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees is the only chapter in Hawaii to have had its president advance to become State, National, and International President of the Jaycees; and
     WHEREAS, the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees had the honor of hosting the 1997 Junior Chamber International World Congress, which brought over 6,000 delegates to Hawaii from over 100 countries around the world; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees has created and continues to host several signature events, including the Healthy Baby Contest (for the past 60 years), the Miss Chinatown Pageant (for the past 35 years), the Dragon Boat Race, the 50th State Fair, and Night in Chinatown; and

 

     WHEREAS, an organization of boundless opportunity, the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees has played a vital role in shaping Hawaii's young leaders, and is the organization of choice to help young adults improve their professional skills, assist the community, build long-term friendships, and ensure a bright future for Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, on Sunday, February 24, 2013, the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees will celebrate the joyous occasion of its 60th Anniversary at the elegant Mandalay Chinese Restaurant in downtown Honolulu; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, that this body hereby congratulates the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees on the momentous occasion of its 60th Anniversary, recognizes its outstanding record of community service and leadership development, and extends its warmest aloha and sincere best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
