HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

Congratulating and commending the Storybook theatre of Hawaii upon the opening of the spark M. Matsunaga International Children's Garden for Peace.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, "the past" – history – is preserved and shared among generations because of the diligent efforts, sincere beliefs, and outstanding talents of many individuals, as well as the untiring leadership and vision of organizations; and

 

     WHEREAS, one such organization, THE STORYBOOK THEATRE OF HAWAII has spearheaded efforts to sustain and protect Hawaii's rich cultural heritage, having accomplished the complete restoration of the historic "Obatake" building in Hanapepe town, a project that has enabled Hawaii's school children to experience and participate in the performing and media arts; and

 

     WHEREAS, over the last three years, THE STORYBOOK THEATRE OF HAWAII and many dedicated volunteers designed and constructed The Spark M. Matsunaga International Children's Garden for Peace, complete with a statue of Hanapepe's hometown "boy", Spark Matsunaga; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Garden for Peace in THE STORYBOOK THEATRE OF HAWAII will provide a safe and richly landscaped children's learning center, with Spark Matsunaga's personal story serving as the basis of peace education on Kauai; and

 

     WHEREAS, Mark Jeffers, Executive Director of THE STORYBOOK THEATRE OF HAWAII, is the exemplary individual whose leadership, contributions, and talents have contributed to the completion of both the building and The Spark M. Matsunaga International Children's Garden for Peace; now, therefore,

 

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, that this body hereby congratulates and commends the Board of Trustees of THE STORYBOOK THEATRE OF HAWAII, Mark Jeffers, and the staff, members, and supporters of the theatre, upon the opening of The Spark M. Matsunaga International Children's Garden for Peace, and extends its best wishes that this important milestone will help promote and foster peace education on Kauai and throughout the State of Hawaii.
