STATE OF HAWAII

HOUSE RESOLUTION

REQUESTING THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU TO CONTINUE WORK ON THE REPAIR AND REPAVING OF STREETS AND SIDEWALKS IN KALIHI.

WHEREAS, in recent years, the poor condition of Honolulu's streets has been widely criticized; and

WHEREAS, some streets have fallen into a state of disrepair, thereby presenting a safety risk to children, kupuna, and pedestrians, and causing anguish to drivers and sometimes damage to vehicles; and

WHEREAS, in 2008, the House of Representatives adopted House Resolution No. 28, "REQUESTING THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU TO CONDUCT A FEASIBILITY STUDY TO ADDRESS MAJOR CONCERNS ALONG KALIHI STREET," and House Resolution No. 73, "REQUESTING THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU TO CONDUCT A FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR THE REPAIR AND REPAVING OF SIDE STREETS ALONG KALIHI STREET"; and

WHEREAS, while the City and County of Honolulu has made great strides to clear the backlog of much-needed street repairs and repaving, as well as sidewalk repair and maintenance, some areas are still in need of attention; and

WHEREAS, one of these areas is Kalihi where numerous side streets and sidewalks are in need of repair and repaving; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, that the City and County of Honolulu is requested to continue its work on repairing and repaving the streets and sidewalks in Kalihi; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City and County of Honolulu is requested to prepare and update a feasibility study on the status of the repair and repaving of streets and sidewalks in Kalihi; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the study focus specifically on Nihi Street, Haaliki Street, Puolani Street, Pahulu Street, Laulani Street, Kilohana Street, Monte Street, Lehua Street, Laumaile Street, Nobrega Street, Machado Street, Kamohoalii Street, Perry Street, Maliu Street, Ohu Street, Elua Street, Akahi Street, Ema Place, Wailele Street, Ahihi Street, Murphy Street, Merkle Street, Noe Street, Violet Place, Moani Street, Umalu Place, Huea Place, Ahuahu Place, Iwaho Place, Kui Place, Kale Place, Kuapapa Place, Kalaupapa Drive, Ukiuki Place, Wahine Place, Anuu Place, Manaiki Place, Mahani Loop, Akone Place, Kuikele Street, Kuikele Place, Papali Place, Palanehe Place, Piliwai Street, Nalanieha Street, Emmeline Place, Kula Kolea Drive, Kula Kolea Place, Naai Street, Halina Street, Wilson Street, Wilson Place, Jennie Street, Alu Street, Kono Street, Kono Place, Aoao Place, Aoao Street, Numana Road, Uaawa Place, Holua Way, Holua Place, Valley View Drive, Kuahiwi Way, Laelae Way, Kamehameha IV Road, Pio Place, Owene Lane, Keha Place, Kilohi Street, Kilohana Street, Hihio Place, Kawohi Place, Kini Place, Lakoloa Place, Iluna Place, Hauiki Street, Kino Street, Lima Street, Gulick Avenue, Kahaha Street, Hiki Street, Puukapu Street, Hulali Place, Ahonui Street, Ulana Street, Ulana Place, Ano Lane, Owawa Street, Nalani Sreet, Laulani Street, Leilani Street, Notley Street, Meyers Street, Haumana Place, North School Street, Hoenui Street, Arsenal Road, Rose Street, Linapuni Street, Houghtailing Street, Ahiahi Street, Alani Street, Hala Drive, Konia Street, Apaki Street, Kealia Drive, Waihee Street, Aupuni Street, Naio Drive, Makanani Drive, Kapalama Avenue, Hanai Loop, Kaikuahine Street, Makuahine Street, Makuahine Place, Kaikunane Loop, Makuakane Place, and Makuakane Street; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City and County of Honolulu is requested to submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2015; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, Honolulu City Councilmember of Council District 7, the City and County of Honolulu Division of Roads Maintenance, and the City and County of Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting.
