HOUSE RESOLUTION
urging the BOARD of education to mandate THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO HOLD quarterly town halls to receive concerns and suggestions from the community.
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii appreciates and values an education system that involves collaboration between the administration and the student body; and
WHEREAS, there are few options available for students within the state public education system to voice their opinions and concerns directly to the Superintendent of Education and administration of the Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, students deserve to have their voice heard and their input taken by the Department of Education, and for their expertise, opinions, and ideas to be valued in all aspects of school life; and
WHEREAS, town halls are public meetings where officials can present their ideas and plans to the community and hear the community's views and feedback on those ideas and plans; and
WHEREAS, town halls will promote transparency between students and the Department of Education administration, while encouraging student participation in their schools, ultimately leading to inclusivity; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2021, that the Board of Education is urged to mandate the Department of Education to hold quarterly town halls where students, parents, and community members can voice their concerns and suggestions to the Superintendent of Education; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Education.
