HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

congratulating and recognizing the Mililani High School boys varsity soccer team for winning the 2012 State and Oahu Interscholastic Association Red Division Boys Varsity Soccer Championships.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the spirit of athletic competition is essential to the physical, mental, and emotional growth of our youth, and instilling the virtues of perseverance, fellowship, and good sportsmanship into the character of the future leaders of Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Mililani High School boys varsity soccer program has a rich history of success in Oahu Interscholastic Association and state soccer competition capturing four state titles prior to this season; and

 

     WHEREAS, this tradition of athletic success has been exemplified by the Mililani High School boys varsity soccer team throughout its superb play during the 2011-2012 season; and

 

     WHEREAS, under the leadership and guidance of dedicated coaches Jeff Yamamoto, Steve McGehee, Blane Ogawa, Ian Hasegawa, Darren Smith, and Tim Liu along with assistants Bert Momohara and Dianne Yamamoto, the 2011-2012 Mililani High School boys varsity soccer team brought great pride to the Mililani community and the greater central Oahu community by demonstrating heart and determination in all of its games and displaying outstanding skill and team effort; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Mililani High School boys varsity soccer team demonstrated great athletic skill at the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Boys Soccer State Championships by shutting out Pearl City High School in the quarterfinals 3-0, then defeating Iolani School in the semifinals by a score of 1-0 before beating Kalani High School in the championship game 3-0 to claim its 5th state title; and

 

     WHEREAS, led by team captains Andrew Momohara, Renato Torquato, Tyler Matas, Doug Curren, Ryan Tokunaga, and Jake Sagami, team members Preston Matuso, Ryan Mayeda, Cameron Metz, Ameen Mutabaa, Tyler Wilson, Zachary Carvalho, Ryan Carlomany, Preston Derige, Matthew Fronda, Jeremy Laguana, Kalen Niimi, Abraham Romero, Evan Wilson, Royce Yamane, Elan Yogi, Cody Gomez, Scott Inouye, Micah Ishikawa, Robin Potts, Kent Ryckman, Landon Tenney, Reece Yoshimitsu, Jarad Choquette, Jeron Cunningham, Thomas Kuriyama, and Anthony Menor achieved great success in this athletic season by outscoring their opponents 65 goals to 4 goals and compiling an impressive record of 15 wins, 1 tie, and no losses; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Mililani High School boys varsity soccer team's notable success reflects each member's exceptional dedication to teamwork and good sportsmanship; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2012, that this body hereby congratulates and recognizes the Mililani High School boys varsity soccer team for winning the 2012 State and Oahu Interscholastic Association Red Division Boys Varsity Soccer Championships and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
