HOUSE RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING THE WINNERS OF THE HAWAII VENTURE CAPITAL ASSOCIATION'S 17TH ANNUAL AWARDS.
WHEREAS, the prosperity and well-being of our communities depend on the vision and entrepreneurial spirit of individuals working to benefit the greater good and promote a robust economy for our island state; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the Hawaii Venture Capital Association (HVCA) is to foster entrepreneurial development through education, exposure to excellent speakers, and networking with key members of Hawaii's business community; and
WHEREAS, each year at its Awards Gala, HVCA recognizes outstanding entrepreneurship in Hawaii to bring to light and celebrate with pride the many noteworthy achievements that our local businesses and driven entrepreneurs have attained over the past year; and
WHEREAS, TINA FITCH of Hobnob was awarded the 2016 HVCA Entrepreneur of the Year Award for developing a user-friendly mobile platform for users to create, design, and manage event invitations for free; and
WHEREAS, ALEX CABELLO of AlgorithmHub, Inc. was awarded the 2016 HVCA Tech Entrepreneur of the Year Award for creating a data science platform that allows companies to commercialize machine learning algorithms without information technology or developmental operations; and
WHEREAS, JACK BEUTTELL and BOBBY FARIAS, JR. of Kunoa Cattle Company were awarded the 2016 HVCA Clean Tech/Ag Entrepreneur of the Year Award for developing best practices in ranching, meat processing, and butchery that preserves the Hawaii paniolo tradition and promoting 100% locally raised Hawaii grown beef; and
WHEREAS, KYLE N. CHANG of HealthTechApps, Inc. was awarded the 2016 HVCA Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award for developing a technology that helps users connect with medical experts after a potential concussion; and
WHEREAS, KAINOA MCGEE of KMBCo was awarded the 2016 HVCA People's Choice Startup of the Year Award for creating a paddleboard that can secure to wheelchairs and assist those who lack balance or lower body mobility or strength; and
WHEREAS, DAWN LIPPERT and JILL SIMS of Energy Excelerator were awarded the 2016 HVCA Investor of the Year Award for investing in local entrepreneurial talent; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2017, that this body hereby congratulates TINA FITCH for being named the 2016 HVCA Entrepreneur of the Year; ALEX CABELLO for being named the 2016 HVCA Tech Entrepreneur of the Year; JACK BEUTTELL and BOBBY FARIAS, JR. for being awarded the 2016 HVCA Clean Tech/Ag Entrepreneur of the Year Award; KYLE N. CHANG for being named the 2016 HVCA Student Entrepreneur of the Year; KAINOA MCGEE for being awarded the 2016 HVCA People's Choice Startup of the Year Award; and DAWN LIPPERT and JILL SIMS for being awarded the 2016 HVCA Investor of the Year Award, and expresses to them its appreciation for their devotion and commitment to improving the future of Hawaii and the Pacific through successful entrepreneurship.
