A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO TEACHER RECRUITMENT.
BE IT
ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part III to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§302A- Recruitment and retention incentives;
public school and early childhood education teachers. (a)
The department, subject to the availability
of existing department funds, may provide monetary or other incentives to enhance
the recruitment and retention of public school and early
childhood education teachers. Incentives
may include housing expenses, relocation expenses, salary differentials, and bonuses.
(b) The
department may adopt rules pursuant to chapter 91 necessary for the purposes of
this section."
SECTION 2. Chapter 302D, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§302D- Recruitment and retention incentives; public
charter school teachers. (a) The
commission, subject to the availability of existing department funds, may provide
monetary or other incentives to enhance the recruitment and retention of public
charter school teachers. Incentives may include
housing expenses, relocation expenses, salary differentials, and bonuses.
(b) The
commission may adopt rules pursuant to chapter 91 necessary for the purposes of
this section."
SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2050.

Authorizes the Department of Education to provide incentives to enhance the recruitment and retention of public school and early education teachers. Authorizes the State Public Charter School Commission to provide incentives to enhance the recruitment and retention of public charter school teachers. Effective 7/1/2050. (SD2)
