A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to THE Puna distance learning CENTER.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for a distance learning center in the Puna district within the University of Hawaii at Hilo to provide greater access to secondary education in the Puna district.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $610,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2016-2017 to establish a distance learning center in the Puna district within the University of Hawaii at Hilo to provide greater access to secondary education in the Puna district that shall be allocated as follows:

     (1)  $275,000 for four full-time equivalent (4.0 FTE) positions;

     (2)  $150,000 for a feasibility study for planning, land acquisition, design, construction, and equipment; and

     (3)  $185,000 for current operating expenses, including utilities, supplies, advertising, training, office equipment rental, lease, and classroom equipment.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii at Hilo for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2016.
