A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO SCHOOL LUNCHES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Section 302A-404, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:
"[[]§302A-404[]] School
lunches[.]; local produce. (a) School lunches shall
be made available under the school lunch program in every school where the
students are required to eat lunch at school.
(b) Every school shall serve fresh local produce under the school lunch program no less than once each week. The amount of local produce purchased by the department shall be sufficient to serve each student no less than one serving of fruits or vegetables at lunch no less than once each week.
(c) For purposes of this section:
"Local produce" means fruits and vegetables that are raised or grown in the State.
"Serving" has the same meaning as that used by the United States Department of Agriculture Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion."
SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2009.
