A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO INFORMATION SHARING.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 27, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part VII to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§27-     Department and agency sharing of information to combat fraud and waste.  (a)  Departments and agencies shall securely share information as reasonably necessary to combat fraud and waste, except as prohibited by state or federal law.

     (b)  The chief information officer shall oversee the sharing of information among departments and agencies and shall develop policies and procedures necessary to effectuate this section."

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2013-2014 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2014-2015 for departments and agencies to share information to combat fraud and waste.

     The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of accounting and general services for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2013.
