SENATE RESOLUTION

 

 

urging the honolulu city council to consider introducing a bill to waive property taxes for agricultural improvements made on agricultural lands.

 

 


     WHEREAS, a strong agricultural economy is built upon a wide array of agricultural operations that meet a variety of demands for agricultural products; and

 

     WHEREAS, diversified agriculture requires innovation and adaptability to meet changing consumer demands, such as the growing demand for organic products; and

 

     WHEREAS, the State must provide opportunities for small, niche product farms and new, start-up farmers pioneering innovative techniques and crops in order to build and sustain a robust, diversified agricultural economy; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, that the Honolulu City Council is urged to consider introducing a bill to waive property taxes for agricultural improvements made on agricultural lands; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that agricultural improvements include but are not limited to improvements related to food production, food safety, packaging, processing, and storage; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu and Chairperson of the Honolulu City Council.
