SENATE RESOLUTION
urging the department of education and the department of transportation services of the city and county of honolulu to remove the bus stop located in front of ilima intermediate school on Fort weaver road.
WHEREAS, more than eight hundred students attend and approximately one hundred faculty and staff members are employed by Ilima Intermediate School; and
WHEREAS, bus stop number 1091 is located in front of Ilima Intermediate School on Fort Weaver Road; and
WHEREAS, this bus stop is often the site of illegal activities, including illegal drug sales and the dumping of packages containing drug paraphernalia, including crystal methamphetamine and marijuana paraphernalia; and
WHEREAS, this bus stop is often the site of public urination and defecation, and is often littered with urine-filled bottles, used condoms, needles, and underwear; and
WHEREAS, these activities endanger the health and safety of Ilima Intermediate School's students, faculty, and staff; and the neighboring community; and
WHEREAS, these activities also cause significant delays to numerous residents who rely on The Bus as their primary mode of transportation; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2021, that the Department of Education and the Department of Transportation Services of the City and County of Honolulu are urged to remove bus stop number 1091, located in front of Ilima Intermediate School on Fort Weaver Road; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Education and the Department of Transportation services of the City and County of Honolulu are requested to notify those persons affected by the removal of bus stop number 1091 that the following bus stops remain available for use:
(1) The Ewa Beach Transit Center, identified as bus stop number 4202; and
(2) The Fort Weaver Road and Makule Road bus stop, identified as bus stop number 1804; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Superintendent of Education and Director of the Department of Transportation Services of the City and County of Honolulu.
