  1 1 Section 1. Section 321.37, subsection 2, Code 2015, is
1 2 amended to read as follows:
  1 3 2. Registration plates issued for a A motor vehicle which
1 4 is model year 1948 or older, and is reconstructed or specially
1 5 constructed vehicles built to resemble a model year 1948
1 6 vehicle or older, or which was originally manufactured with a
1 7 front bumper that sits twenty=four inches from the ground or
1 8 less, other than a truck registered for more than five tons, a
1 9 motorcycle, or a truck tractor, may display one registration
1 10 plate on the rear of the vehicle if the other registration
1 11 plate issued to the vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all
1 12 times when the vehicle is operated on a public highway.
  1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
1 15 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
1 16 Generally, a motor vehicle is required to display two
1 17 registration plates, with one on the front of the vehicle
1 18 and one on the rear of the vehicle. Current law allows
1 19 motor vehicles which are model year 1948 or older, or are
1 20 reconstructed or specially constructed to resemble a model year
1 21 1948 vehicle or older, to display only one registration plate
1 22 on the rear of the vehicle if the other registration plate
1 23 issued to the vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all times
1 24 when the vehicle is operated on a public highway.
1 25 This bill broadens that exception to include any motor
1 26 vehicle originally manufactured with a front bumper that sits
1 27 24 inches from the ground or less.
1 28 The scheduled fine for incorrect display of registration
1 29 plates in violation of Code section 321.37 is $20.
