purposes
of
this
section,
unless
the
context

otherwise
requires:

a.
“Public
communication”
means
the
same
as
section
262B.11.
5
b.
“Sponsor”
means
the
same
as
section
262B.11.

c.
“Sponsored
research”
means
the
same
as
section
262B.11.

2.
A
faculty
member
or
other
employee
or
appointee
of
a
8
community
college
who
conducted
or
participated
in
conducting
9
sponsored
research
shall,
in
any
public
communication
relating
10
to
the
results
of
such
research,
conspicuously
disclose
the
11
identity
of
each
sponsor
of
the
research.

Disclosure

research

sponsors
in
public
communications.

1.
For
purposes
of
this
section,
unless
the
context
15
otherwise
requires:
16
a.
“Public
communication”
means
oral
or
written
17
communication
intended
for
public
consumption
or
distribution,
18
including
any
of
the
following:
19
(1)
Testimony
in
a
public
administrative,
legislative,
20
regulatory,
or
judicial
proceeding.
21
(2)
Printed
matter
including
a
magazine,
journal,
22
newsletter,
newspaper,
pamphlet,
or
report.
23
(3)
Posting
of
information
on
a
website
or
similar
internet
24
host
for
information.
25
b.
“Sponsor”
means
an
entity
that
contracts
for
or
provides
26
money
or
materials
for
research.
27
c.
“Sponsored
research”
means
research
that
is
conducted
28
under
a
contract
with
or
a
grant
from
an
individual
or
entity,
29
other
than
the
institution
conducting
the
research,
for
the
30
purpose
of
the
research;
and
in
which
payments
received
or
the
31
value
of
materials
received
under
that
contract
or
grant,
or
32
under
a
combination
of
more
than
one
such
contract
or
grant,
33
constitutes
at
least
fifty
percent
of
the
cost
of
conducting
34
the
research.

A
faculty
member
or
other

governed
by
the
state
board
of

regents
who
conducted
or
participated
in
conducting
sponsored

research
shall,
in
any
public
communication
relating
to
the

results
of
such
research,
conspicuously
disclose
the
identity
5
of
each
sponsor
of
the
research.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
8
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
requires
that
faculty
or
other
employees
or
10
appointees
of
a
community
college
or
regents
university
who
11
conducted
or
participated
in
conducting
sponsored
research
12
shall,
in
any
public
communication
relating
to
the
results
of
13
such
research,
conspicuously
disclose
the
identity
of
each
14
sponsor
of
the
research.

The
bill
defines
public
communication,
sponsor,
and
16
sponsored
research.
