Section 905.2, Code 2018, is amended to read as 1 2 follows: 1 3 905.2 District departments established. 1 4 There is established in each judicial district in this state 1 5 a public agency to be known as the "........ judicial district 1 6 department of correctional services." Each district department 1 7 shall furnish or contract for those services necessary to 1 8 provide a community=based correctional program which meets 1 9 the needs of that judicial district. The district department 1 10 is under the direction of a board of directors, selected as 1 11 provided in section 905.3, and shall be administered by a 1 12 director employed by the board. A district department is a 1 13 state agency for purposes of chapter 669, and the employees of 1 14 each district shall be considered employees of the state and 1 15 shall be covered by the merit system provisions of chapter 8A, 1 16 subchapter IV, or under the appropriate collective bargaining 1 17 agreement. 1 18 EXPLANATION 1 19 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 20 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 21 This bill relates to the employees of the judicial district 1 22 department of correctional services (district department). The 1 23 bill specifies that the employees of each district department 1 24 shall be considered employees of the state and shall be covered 1 25 by the state merit system or under the appropriate collective 1 26 bargaining unit.
