1.

Iowa
Acts,
chapter

section

subsection
2,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

2.
If
the
department
of
the
navy,
pursuant
to
a
process
3
outlined
in
a
notice
published
in
the
federal
register
on
4
May
24,
2010,
volume
75,
number
99,
awards
possession
or
5
conditionally
awards
possession
of
the
battleship
Iowa,
6
BB-61,
to
a
nonprofit
group
that
is
eligible
to
receive
the
7
battleship,
the
department
of
cultural
affairs
shall
award
8
a
grant
to
the
nonprofit
group
in
an
amount
equal
to
$3
9
million
in
addition
to
any
moneys
awarded
as
a
grant
from
the
10
BB-61
fund.
Moneys
in
the
BB-61
fund
are
appropriated
to
11
the
department
of
cultural
affairs
to
be
used
in
accordance
12
with
this
section.
Subject
only
to
the
requirements
in
this
13
subsection,
the
department
of
cultural
affairs
shall
award
14
a
grant
to
a
nonprofit
entity
that
is
awarded
possession
or
15
conditional
possession
of
the
battleship
Iowa,
BB-61,
an
16
amount
equal
to
$3,000,000
plus
any
moneys
held
in
the
BB-61
17
fund
created
in
2010
Iowa
Acts,
chapter
1194.
The
grant
18
moneys
shall
be
expended
for
the
limited
purposes
of
hull
and
19
superstructure
preparation
and
painting,
ship
repairs
and
20
improvements,
transportation
and
towing
of
ship,
pier,
and
dock
21
preparation
and
improvements,
and
museum
development
for
the
22
purposes
of
receiving
and
berthing
the
battleship
Iowa,
BB-61.

The
grant
shall
be
awarded
and
the
moneys
shall
be
remitted
to
24
the
nonprofit
not
less
than
30
days
after
the
effective
date
25
of
this
2012
Act.
The
grant
recipient
shall
file
two
periodic
26
reports
with
both
the
department
of
cultural
affairs
and
the
27
state
auditor
itemizing
how
the
moneys
have
been
expended.
The
28
first
report
shall
be
filed
when
50
percent
of
the
moneys
have
29
been
expended,
and
the
second
report
shall
be
filed
when
100
30
percent
of
the
moneys
have
been
expended.
31
Sec.
2.
EFFECTIVE
UPON
ENACTMENT.
This
Act,
being
deemed
of
32
immediate
importance,
takes
effect
upon
enactment.

This

relates
to
financial
assistance

fiscal
year
2010-2011,
the
department
of
cultural

affairs
received
a
$3
million
appropriation
for
purposes

of
awarding
a
grant
to
a
nonprofit
group
that
is
awarded

possession
of
the
battleship
Iowa,
BB-61,
by
the
department
5
of
the
navy.
In
addition,
in
2010
Iowa
Acts,
chapter
1194,
a
6
BB-61
fund
was
created
under
the
control
of
the
department
for
7
purposes
of
supporting
the
battleship
Iowa
committee
and
for
8
the
preservation
and
relocation
of
the
battleship
Iowa,
BB-61.

The
bill
amends
the
purpose
of
the
fiscal
year
2010-2011
10
appropriation
by
providing
that
the
department
shall
award
11
a
grant
to
a
nonprofit
group
that
is
awarded
possession
or
12
conditional
possession
of
the
battleship
Iowa,
BB-61,
in
an
13
amount
equal
to
$3
million
plus
any
moneys
in
the
BB-61
fund.

The
bill
provides
specific
preservation
and
relocation
purposes
15
for
which
the
awarded
moneys
shall
be
used.
The
bill
includes
16
reporting
requirements.
17
The
bill
takes
effect
upon
enactment.
