Section
1.
Section
272C.2,
subsection
2,
Code
2024,
is

amended
by
adding
the
following
new
paragraph:

NEW
PARAGRAPH
.
h.
Not
require
a
licensee
to
obtain

continuing
education
credits
in
a
subject
matter
that
is
not
4
directly
related
to
the
practice
of
the
licensee’s
occupation
5
or
profession.

Sec.
2.
Section
272C.3,
Code
2024,
is
amended
by
adding
the
7
following
new
subsection:

NEW
SUBSECTION
.
5.
Notwithstanding
any
provision
of
law
9
to
the
contrary,
a
board
shall
not
require
an
applicant
for
a
10
license
to
obtain
education
credits
in
a
subject
matter
that
11
is
not
directly
related
to
the
practice
of
the
occupation
or
12
profession
for
which
the
applicant
seeks
a
license.

Sec.
3.
Section
602.1206,
Code
2024,
is
amended
by
adding
14
the
following
new
subsection:

NEW
SUBSECTION
.
3.
The
supreme
court
shall
not
require
an
16
attorney
to
receive
education
credits
in
a
subject
matter
that
17
is
not
directly
related
to
the
practice
of
law
as
a
condition
18
of
receiving
or
renewing
a
license
to
practice
law.

EXPLANATION
20
The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
21
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
issuance
and
renewal
of
23
professional
and
occupational
licenses.
The
bill
prohibits
24
a
licensing
board,
including
the
supreme
court
in
licensing
25
attorneys,
from
requiring
an
applicant
or
licensee
to
obtain
26
education
credits
in
a
subject
matter
that
is
not
directly
27
related
to
the
practice
of
the
profession
as
a
condition
of
28
receiving
or
renewing
a
professional
or
occupational
license.
