1.
Section
331.907,
Code
2020,
is
amended
by
adding
1
the
following
new
subsection:

NEW
SUBSECTION
.
2A.
If
the
board
of
supervisors
adopts
a
3
compensation
schedule
that
annually
compensates
a
supervisor
4
in
an
amount
greater
than
the
median
annual
household
income
5
for
the
county
based
on
the
most
recently
published
United
6
States
census
bureau
median
household
income
statistics,
the
7
board
of
supervisors
shall
direct
the
county
commissioner
of
8
elections
to
submit
to
the
registered
voters
of
the
county
at
a
9
special
election
held
pursuant
to
section
39.2
the
question
of
10
whether
the
adopted
compensation
schedule
shall
be
approved.

If
a
majority
of
those
voting
do
not
approve
the
adopted
12
compensation
schedule
prior
to
the
date
the
county
budget
is
13
certified
pursuant
to
section
24.17,
the
compensation
for
14
supervisors
shall
be
the
same
as
provided
in
the
current
fiscal
15
year.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
18
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
annual
compensation
of
county
20
supervisors.
Under
current
law,
a
county
compensation
board
21
recommends
the
annual
compensation
of
certain
county
officials,
22
including
supervisors,
after
reviewing
the
compensation
paid
23
to
comparable
officers
in
other
counties
of
this
state,
other
24
states,
private
enterprise,
and
the
federal
government.
The
25
bill
provides
that
if
the
county
board
of
supervisors
adopts
26
a
compensation
schedule
that
annually
compensates
supervisors
27
in
an
amount
greater
than
the
median
annual
household
income
28
for
the
county,
the
board
must
direct
the
county
commissioner
29
of
elections
to
submit
to
the
registered
voters
of
the
county
30
the
question
of
whether
the
adopted
compensation
schedule
shall
31
be
approved.
If
a
majority
of
those
voting
do
not
approve
the
32
adopted
compensation
schedule
prior
to
the
date
the
county
33
budget
is
certified,
the
compensation
