ALLOWANCE.
The
department
of
veterans
affairs
shall
adopt
2
rules
to
increase
the
amount
exempted
from
the
monthly
income
3
of
a
member
of
the
Iowa
veterans
home
as
the
member’s
personal
4
needs
allowance
by
$10.

Sec.
2.
EFFECTIVE
DATE.
This
Act,
being
deemed
of
immediate
6
importance,
takes
effect
upon
enactment.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
9
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

Under
administrative
rules
adopted
by
the
Iowa
department
of
11
veterans
affairs
for
the
Iowa
veterans
home
(801
IAC
10.19),
a
12
veteran
living
in
the
Iowa
veterans
home
has
$140
exempted
as
a
13
personal
needs
allowance
from
the
veteran’s
monthly
income
used
14
to
calculate
member
support.
This
bill
requires
the
department
15
to
adopt
rules
increasing
the
personal
needs
allowance
by
$10.
16
The
bill
takes
effect
upon
enactment.
