Section 509B.2, subsection 1, Code 2015, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 1. As used in this chapter, "termination of employment or 1 4 membership" includes but is not limited to termination because 1 5 of permanent or temporary layoff or approved leave of absence, 1 6 including an absence or reduction in hours due to the injury or 1 7 illness of the employee or member. A provision in this chapter 1 8 which relates to termination of insurance under a group policy 1 9 of an employee or member and the employee's or member's covered 1 10 dependents includes termination of insurance with respect to 1 11 the surviving or former spouse or children of an employee or 1 12 member whose insurance would terminate because of dissolution 1 13 or annulment of the marriage of the employee or member, or 1 14 would terminate because of death of the employee or member. 1 15 EXPLANATION 1 16 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 17 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 18 Code chapter 509B provides that an employee or member has 1 19 the right to continue their group accident or health insurance 1 20 which would otherwise terminate because of termination of 1 21 the employment or membership. The bill specifies that a 1 22 "termination of employment or membership" which triggers this 1 23 right includes an absence or reduction in hours due to the 1 24 injury or illness of the employee or member.
