Section 135.180, subsection 3, Code 2015, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 3. a. The program shall provide stipends to support 1 4 psychiatrist positions with an emphasis on securing and 1 5 retaining medical directors at community mental health centers, 1 6 providers of mental health services to county residents 1 7 pursuant to a waiver approved under section 225C.7, subsection 1 8 3, Code 2011, and hospital psychiatric units that are located 1 9 in mental health professional shortage areas. 1 10 b. The program shall provide stipends to support psychiatric 1 11 positions at nonprofit agencies licensed under chapter 135H 1 12 that provide mental health services if at least fifty percent 1 13 of the clients are covered under the medical assistance program 1 14 established in chapter 249A. 1 15 Sec. 2. Section 135.180, Code 2015, is amended by adding the 1 16 following new subsection: 1 17 NEW SUBSECTION. 6. Any funds remaining available after the 1 18 expenditures made pursuant to subsection 3 shall be used by the 1 19 program to provide stipends to support all of the following: 1 20 a. Psychiatrist positions at community mental health centers 1 21 and hospital psychiatric units if at least fifty percent of the 1 22 clients served in the community mental health centers or in 1 23 the hospital psychiatric units are covered under the medical 1 24 assistance program established in chapter 249A. 1 25 b. Psychiatric physicians who provide consulting services to 1 26 community mental health centers and hospital psychiatric units 1 27 that are located in mental health professional shortage areas. 1 28 c. Physicians in a psychiatric residency program agreeing to 1 29 provide services in a mental health professional shortage area 1 30 for a minimum of five years. HF 534 (3) 86 rh/rj/md
