  1  1 A Resolution commemorating the 25th anniversary of the
  1  2    conclusion of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
  1  3    WHEREAS, Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm
  1  4 occurred from August 2, 1990, to April 6, 1991, in the
  1  5 Middle East; and
  1  6    WHEREAS, Iowa=based National Guard and Reserve
  1  7 units, and selected personnel, were deployed to
  1  8 the Middle East in support of Operation Desert
  1  9 Shield/Desert Storm; and
  1 10    WHEREAS, active duty military personnel from Iowa,
  1 11 stationed all over the world, served in Operation
  1 12 Desert Shield/Desert Storm in all branches of the
  1 13 United States Armed Forces; and
  1 14    WHEREAS, six military veterans and one civilian
  2  1 contractor from Iowa gave their lives during Operation
  2  2 Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and
  2  3    WHEREAS, on December 19, 2014, the National Desert
  2  4 Storm War Memorial Association received congressional
  2  5 and executive approval to build a National Desert Storm
  2  6 War Memorial in Washington, D.C., to honor the veterans
  2  7 from Iowa and the nation who were killed in Operation
  2  8 Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and
  2  9    WHEREAS, February 28, 2016, marks the 25th
  2 10 anniversary of the date a cease=fire was declared
  2 11 concerning Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and
  2 12    WHEREAS, April 6, 2016, marks the 25th anniversary
  2 13 of the date Iraq officially accepted cease=fire terms
  2 14 to conclude Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; NOW
  2 15 THEREFORE,
  2 16    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 17 That the House of Representatives recognizes and
  2 18 shows support for the future National Desert Storm War
  2 19 Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and
  2 20    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of
  2 21 Representatives commemorates the 25th anniversary of
  2 22 the conclusion of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm,
  2 23 and urges the citizens of this State to honor those
  2 24 Iowa veterans who served their country during Operation
  2 25 Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
