WHEREAS,
America’s
electric
energy
is
generated
3
by
thousands
of
independently
owned
and
operated
4
power
plants,
all
of
which
are
connected
by
a
complex
5
electrical
grid
consisting
of
over
5
million
miles
of
6
transmission
and
distribution
lines
that
deliver
energy
7
to
homes,
businesses,
hospitals,
churches,
and
schools
8
throughout
the
United
States;
and
9
WHEREAS,
the
nationwide
electrical
grid
must
be
10
maintained
and
operational
24
hours
a
day,
7
days
11
a
week,
and
365
days
a
year
despite
freezing
cold,
12
torrential
rains,
tornadoes,
and
various
other
13
catastrophes;
and
14
WHEREAS,
most
people
take
electricity
for
granted
15
when
they
flip
on
the
switch
and
fail
to
think
about
16
the
people
who
provide
this
necessity
on
an
extremely
17
reliable
basis;
and
18
WHEREAS,
this
vital
service
is
performed
by
the
19
dedicated
and
skilled
men
and
women
known
as
electrical
20
line
workers
who
are
employed
by
Iowa’s
investor-owned

municipal
utilities,
and
rural
electric

cooperatives;
and

WHEREAS,
Iowa’s
line
workers
have
repeatedly

demonstrated
outstanding
courage,
skill,
and
dedication

by
tirelessly
working
to
maintain
and
restore
the
5
electrical
power
grid,
often
under
the
most
trying
6
conditions;
and
7
WHEREAS,
the
hard
working
men
and
women
of
Iowa
8
who
work
each
day
to
ensure
the
reliable
delivery
of
9
electric
energy
to
all
Iowans
deserve
our
appreciation,
10
gratitude,
and
respect;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That

the
House
of
Representatives,
honoring
the
work
and

sacrifice
of
Iowa’s
line
workers,
recognizes
April
16,

2014,
as
Line

Appreciation
Day
in
