1.
Section
216.5,
Code
2018,
is
amended
by
adding
1
the
following
new
subsection:

NEW
SUBSECTION
.
16.
To
hold
educational
seminars
on
3
compliance
with
building
accessibility
laws.
The
commission
4
shall
hold
quarterly
educational
seminars
related
to
any
5
building
codes
regarding
accessibility
and
compliance
6
requirements
pursuant
to
any
state
or
federal
law
regarding
7
accessibility,
including
the
federal
Americans
With
8
Disabilities
Act
of
1990,
as
amended.
The
seminars
shall
be
9
open
to
the
public
and
the
commission
shall
allow
interested
10
persons
to
participate
in
person
or
by
telephone.
The
11
commission
shall
provide
the
opportunity
for
interested
persons
12
to
ask
questions.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
duties
and
responsibilities
of
the
17
civil
rights
commission.

The
bill
requires
the
civil
rights
commission
to
hold
19
quarterly
educational
seminars
related
to
any
building
codes
20
regarding
accessibility
and
compliance
requirements
pursuant
21
to
any
state
or
federal
law,
including
the
federal
Americans
22
With
Disabilities
Act
of
1990,
as
amended.
The
bill
provides
23
the
educational
seminars
shall
be
open
to
the
public
and
that
24
the
commission
shall
allow
interested
persons
to
participate
25
in
the
educational
seminars
in
person
or
by
telephone.
The
26
bill
directs
the
commission
to
provide
the
opportunity
for
27
interested
persons
to
ask
questions.
