  1  1    Section 1.  Section 279.50, subsection 2, Code 2017, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    2.  Each school board shall provide age=appropriate and
  1  4 research=based instruction in human growth and development
  1  5 including instruction regarding human sexuality,; self=esteem,;
  1  6  stress management,; interpersonal relationships,; dating
  1  7 violence; affirmative, conscious, and voluntary consent
  1  8 to engage in sexual activity; domestic abuse,; HPV and the
  1  9 availability of a vaccine to prevent HPV,; and acquired immune
  1 10 deficiency syndrome, as required in section 256.11, in grades
  1 11 one through twelve.
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 14 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 15    This bill provides that the age=appropriate and
  1 16 research=based instruction in human growth and development,
  1 17 which each school board must provide, must include instruction
  1 18 regarding dating violence and affirmative, conscious, and
  1 19 voluntary consent to engage in sexual activity.
