Senate File 2066 - Introduced SENATE FILE BY JOHNSON (COMPANION TO HF 2017 BY JONES) A BILL FOR 1 An Act relating to coaching endorsements and authorizations 2 issued by the board of educational examiners and to certain 3 emergency medical procedures training requirements, and 4 including applicability provisions. 5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: TLSB 5378XS (1) 86 kh/rj PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 272.31, subsection 1, Code 2016, is 1 2 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 1 3 NEW PARAGRAPH. 0e. Successful completion of a certification 1 4 course for basic cardiac life support. 1 5 Sec. 2. Section 279.19B, subsection 1, Code 2016, is amended 1 6 by adding the following new paragraph: 1 7 NEW PARAGRAPH. 0b. An individual employed under paragraph 1 8 "a" shall possess a valid certificate of completion of a 1 9 nationally recognized course in basic cardiac life support. 1 10 Sec. 3. APPLICABILITY PROVISIONS. A person who possesses 1 11 a valid teaching license with a coaching endorsement or a 1 12 coaching authorization issued by the board of educational 1 13 examiners prior to July 1, 2016, shall have until July 1, 2017, 1 14 to meet the requirements of this Act. 1 15 EXPLANATION 1 16 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 17 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 18 This bill provides that an applicant for a coaching 1 19 authorization or coaching endorsement issued by the board 1 20 of educational examiners and a person employed by a school 1 21 district as a coach must possess a valid certificate of 1 22 completion of a nationally recognized course in basic cardiac 1 23 life support. 1 24 A person who possesses a valid teaching license with a 1 25 coaching endorsement or a coaching authorization issued by the 1 26 board prior to July 1, 2016, shall have until July 1, 2017, to 1 27 meet the requirements of the bill.
