S.F. 2214 Section 1. Section 714.8, Code Supplement 2011, is amended 1 by adding the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 3A. Knowingly misrepresents or knowingly 3 omits the person’s financial information on an application for 4 free legal assistance from a nonprofit legal aid organization 5 in this state. 6 EXPLANATION 7 This bill provides that a person who knowingly misrepresents 8 or knowingly omits the person’s financial information on an 9 application for free legal assistance from a nonprofit legal 10 aid organization in this state is guilty of a fraudulent 11 practice. A person guilty of a fraudulent practice may be 12 charged with a simple misdemeanor, a serious misdemeanor, 13 an aggravated misdemeanor, a class “D” felony, or a class 14 “C” felony depending upon the value of the money or property 15 involved at the time the fraudulent practice is committed. 16 -1- LSB 5817SS (2) 84 rh/nh 1/ 1
