Section
1.
Section
331.907,
subsection
1,
Code
2023,
is
1
amended
to
read
as
follows:

1.
The
annual
compensation
of
the
auditor,
treasurer,
3
recorder,
sheriff,
county
attorney,
and
supervisors
shall
4
be
determined
as
provided
in
this
section
.
The
county
5
compensation
board
annually
shall
review
the
compensation
6
paid
to
comparable
officers
in
other
counties
of
this
7
state,
other
states,
private
enterprise,
and
the
federal
8
government
,
and
shall
consider
the
current
economic
health
9
of
the
county,
state,
and
country
.
In
setting
the
salary
of
10
the
county
sheriff,
the
county
compensation
board
shall
set
11
the
sheriff’s
salary
so
that
it
is
comparable
to
salaries
12
paid
to
professional
law
enforcement
administrators
and
13
command
officers
of
the
state
patrol,
the
division
of
criminal
14
investigation
of
the
department
of
public
safety,
and
city
15
police
chiefs
employed
by
cities
of
similar
population
to
16
the
population
of
the
county.
The
county
compensation
board
17
shall
prepare
a
compensation
schedule
for
the
elective
elected
18
county
officers
for
the
succeeding
fiscal
year.
The
county
19
compensation
board
shall
provide
documentation
to
the
board
of
20
supervisors
that
demonstrates
how
the
county
compensation
board
21
determined
the
recommended
compensation
schedule,
including
22
by
providing
the
applicable
compensation
information
for
all
23
the
adjacent
counties
in
this
state
and
for
counties
in
this
24
state
with
a
similar
population.
A
recommended
compensation
25
schedule
requires
a
majority
vote
of
the
membership
of
the
26
county
compensation
board.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
duties
of
a
county
compensation
31
board
when
recommending
a
compensation
schedule.
Under
current
32
law,
a
county
compensation
board
recommends
a
compensation
33
schedule
for
elected
county
officers
for
the
succeeding
fiscal
34
year
and
submits
the
recommended
compensation
schedule
to
the

board
of
supervisors
for
approval.
When
determining

the
recommended
compensation
schedule,
current
law
requires

the
county
compensation
board
to
review
the
compensation
paid

to
comparable
officers
in
other
counties
of
this
state,
other

states,
in
private
enterprise,
in
the
federal
government,
5
and,
in
the
case
of
the
county
sheriff’s
salary,
other
6
law
enforcement
personnel.
The
bill
requires
the
county
7
compensation
board
to
also
consider
the
current

of
the
county,
state,
and
country
when

the

schedule.

The
bill
also
requires
the
county
compensation
board

to

the
