1.
DEPARTMENT
OF
CORRECTIONS

MAIL.
The
1
department
of
corrections
shall
amend
its
administrative
rules
2
pursuant
to
chapter
17A
to
provide
that
confidential
mail
3
sent
by
an
attorney
to
an
inmate
committed
to
the
custody
4
of
the
director
of
the
department
of
corrections,
if
the
5
inmate
is
represented
by
the
attorney,
shall
not
contain
any
6
correspondence
or
material
from
an
individual
other
than
from
7
the
inmate’s
attorney.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
confidential
mail
sent
by
an
attorney

to
an
inmate
committed
to
the
custody
of
the
department
of

corrections.

The
bill
directs
the
department
of
corrections
to
amend
15
its
administrative
rules
concerning
confidential
mail
sent
by
16
an
attorney
to
an
inmate
in
the
custody
of
the
director
of
17
the
department
of
corrections,
if
the
inmate
is
represented
18
by
the
attorney,
to
provide
that
any
correspondence
from
the
19
attorney
shall
not
contain
any
correspondence
or
material
from
20
an
individual
other
than
from
the
inmate’s
attorney.
