WHEREAS,
in
the
year
1989,
the
Berlin
Wall
came

down,
Chinese
students
occupied
Tiananmen
Square,
a
4
gallon
of
gas
cost
97
cents,
and
William
L.
Krieg
began
5
a
22-year
career
with
the
Iowa
Senate;
and
6
WHEREAS,
Mr.
Krieg
was
a
long-time
Des
Moines
7
resident
who
came
to
the
Senate
after
a
busy
career,
8
working
with
National
By-Products,
the
Borden
company,
9
Pennwalt,
the
Des
Moines
Register,
and
Universal
10
Hospital
Services;
and
11
WHEREAS,
beginning
as
a
doorman,
in
1998
Mr.
Krieg
12
assumed
the
position
of
Sergeant-at-Arms;
and
13
WHEREAS,
for
the
next
13
years
Mr.
Krieg
shouldered
14
the
responsibility
of
bringing
order
and
decorum
to
15
the
floor
of
the
Senate
——
no
easy
task
in
the
swirl
16
of
a
legislative
session,
where
anything
can
and
does
17
happen;
and
18
WHEREAS,
Mr.
Krieg’s
most
important
responsibility
19
was
the
direction
and
supervision
of
the
young
men
and
20
women
who
served
as
Senate
pages,
working
with
hundreds
21
of
these
youngsters
over
the
years,
instilling
in
them
22
a
work
ethic
and
providing
them
with
an
opportunity
to
23
witness
the
political
process
firsthand;
and
24
WHEREAS,
first
and
foremost
Bill
Krieg
is
a
family
25
man
——
a
husband
to
his
late,
beloved
wife
Ruth,
to
26
whom
he
was
married
for
59
years,
and
a
father
to
his
27
children:
Cindy

Diane
(Steve)
Osieki,

him

family

happiness
in
the
years
to
come;
and

RESOLVED,
That
an
